Role Description
Woodruff & Smart, APC, is seeking entry-level and mid-level associates to join our growing Eminent Domain practice group, one of the largest in California. Our attorneys have handled hundreds of property acquisitions supporting significant public works and infrastructure projects throughout Southern California, and the practice has grown substantially over the past decade in response to our clients’ needs.
The ideal candidate will have an interest in eminent domain and real estate litigation. Prior experience in condemnation litigation is a plus but is not required. Relevant experience may include easement enforcement, quiet title, real property and business valuation, and lease disputes.
Responsibilities may include preparing resolutions of necessity and supporting documents; appearing before governing boards in open and closed sessions; drafting pleadings; researching, drafting, and arguing motions, including motions for possession; preparing and responding to written discovery; taking and defending depositions, including expert witness depositions; and participating in mediations and trials. This is a full-time, hybrid role based in Costa Mesa, CA, with flexibility for some remote work.
Qualifications
• Law degree from an ABA-accredited law school
• Licensed to practice law in California
• Strong research, writing, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Entry-level or 3–5 years of relevant experience
• Real estate litigation experience preferred for experienced candidates
• Condemnation or eminent domain experience a plus, but not required
• Strong case management, organizational, and multitasking skills
